A beautiful wallpaper, rich in history and even more so for those who love Florence and its intriges which were rife during the years of the Medici domination and within their history.
This Italian wallpaper shows a part of the wall of the Bianca Cappello building. The wall has been filled with grotesque figures (see Design wallpaper Grottesca 1 for an explanation of these figures). Bianca Cappello was a lover of one of the granduca's of the Medici (Francesco the first) and in the end he married her after his wife died unexpectedly and before her time. However, both died about a year later, one day after the other after they had been presumably poisoned. While Bianca was still a mistress, Francesco I mad this building made for her, including a tunnel to Palazzo Pitti where he used to live. The tunnel was easy so they could meet without any trouble. The tunnel made it possible, during the second World war, to keep some important art works out of the hands of the Germans.
Despite its rich history, this wallpaper has tranquil, subdued colours.
The design wallpaper Bianca Cappello is part of the collection Arte Antica. You can see some details on top.
